Robbie Scheiner

Robbie Scheiner is the founder and principal at Clifton. Robbie has extensive experience working as a corporate and commercial lawyer with leading law firms in Australia, England and South Africa. He has acted for a range of clients including public and private companies, major multinationals, financial institutions, government institutions, and private equity investors. From 1994—1999 Robbie was a partner at Mallinicks Attorneys (now Webber Wentzel in alliance with Linklaters), a highly successful international corporate, media and technology law practice based in London, where he acted on numerous cross-border transactions. Upon coming to Australia in 1999 Robbie joined the corporate advisory group of Blake Dawson (now Ashurst) where he headed the M&A team for the Telstra account. In addition to advising Clifton clients, Robbie consults, through Clifton, to Ashurst via their Advance Reach service. Robbie holds a BA.LLB from the University of Cape Town. He is admitted to practice as a solicitor in Australia, England and Wales, and South Africa.

 

Brian Scheiner

Brian Scheiner is an executive director of Oceana Capital Partners Limited (ASX listed), and consults to Clifton. Brian holds BA, LLB, H DIP CO LAW and H DIP TAX qualifications from the University of Cape Town. Brian began his career at Sonnenberg, Hoffman & Galombik (SHG), Cape Town’s pre-eminent law firm. He was admitted as an attorney and became an equity partner of SHG where he practiced in the corporate and commercial group for 10 years, specializing in mergers & acquisitions, and takeovers. Brian also served on the firm’s management and equity allocation committee’s.

Brian left legal practice to join a client, African Harvest Capital (Pty) Limited, where he headed the investment banking division. He remained at African Harvest for 3 years before leaving to establish HJS Advisory Services (Pty) Ltd (HJS), a corporate advisory business that he co-founded and co-owned. HJS was acquired by Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited (HCI), and subsequently became HCI’s exclusive corporate advisor. Brian remained with HCI for over 3 years before relocating to Australia. During this period HCI undertook a number of acquisitions and disposals and its market capitalization increased from R500 million to over R10 billion.
